Dall Porpoise

These guys were swimming with the boat on a recent trip...pretty cool. Hope the video works. Watch your volume cuz it may be pretty loud.

Oystercatcher Torture (I mean research)

A few photos from a trip in early June. "They" implanted satelite transmitters into oystercathcers, this will enable "them" to see where these birds go for their wintering areas. This is still part of the same inter-agency oystercatcher work that I've been involved with for the past few years. It wasn't much fun for me to watch my friends with tubes down their throats, but I guess in the name of science it is for a good cause. I'm not really into animal touching...kinda wierd view for a biologist...but I just worry/hope that the question being asked is worth the means. But people do it all the time so it has to be ok right?

The Basset Hound is the captian of our charter boats dog...

Broken Camera

Well, my camera broke a while ago so I'm sans pictures as of late.

Charise and Lance were here for Forest Fair weekend and we had a great time. Charise stayed for another week and we spent some time on fun hikes, a float trip on the Kenai and we hung out with a couple of new mother friends and their little ones.

I also went to the new Dairy Queen in Anchorage to celebrate Sage's All Star Baseball season. It is quite the crazy Anchorage phenomenon. The line of cars at the drive up window was least 20 cars deep and the line inside went on forever. Alaskans like their ice cream and fast food. I was disappointed to see that Dennis the Menace was no longer the face on the cups but worst yet was the fact my Mr. Misty was now an Arctic Freeze. But wait...the Freeze machine was broken and I was denied my favorite Mr. Misty (arctic) Freeze. Rats. Waited in line for nothing! But have no worries, I went dip netting last weekend and went to the DQ in Soldotna and was happy to see they still called it a Mr. Misty and the machine wasn't broken...success. Also got a bunch of fish.

Looking forward to my parents and Aunt Pat and Uncle Clyde's visit in a few weeks.

Some older pics of mike's trip, Becky Z, and work stuff...
